Choreographic Composition
by Brigitte Wilfing
Brigitte Wilfing reflects on choreographic composition
"My choreographic compositions often have their origin in the study of the functional movement/gesture of the musician that triggers the sound and its extension, that it becomes readable as dance as well. I ́m interested in shifting the perception towards experiencing the sound as dance as well and towards perceiving the choreographic aspects of the sound. What happens to the musician, to the
perception, listening and playing of music, when the concentration is also on the movement that triggers the sound? When the gesture becomes extended in the sense that the aesthetics of the movement is not separated from the aesthetics of the sound, but the movement is examined choreographically and somatically. When a playing-convention“, the very specific economics and efficiency involved, is suspended? When means of restriction allow expansion into new realms of thinking in the act."
Brigitte Wilfing is a choreographer and performer, based in Vienna. She focuses on artistic research and on choreographic works, that deal with society's inscriptions into the body and the processes of un-writing and re-writing. Her work is shown at home and abroad.
Since 2006 she has been initiating and participating in transmedial settings and collaborative research projects at the intersection of theory and practice. In 2019 she received her Master in Choreography and New Performative Practices at the University of Arts, Stockholm.
